ISD professionals participate in a conversation at UFRN about family networks in the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder

Posted in October 20, 2022

Professionals from the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) will participate, next Friday (21), in a discussion group promoted by the Neuropsychology Research and Extension Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (LAPEN/UFRN) with the theme: “Diagnostic process of Autism Spectrum Disorder: how families can compose an integrated network”. The activity will begin at 5:30 pm, in Auditorium D of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts of the University (CCHLA/UFRN). Registrations can be made via SIGAA.

The discussion is part of the 1st LAPEN Debate Cycle, which has as its theme: “Topics in Neuropsychology of Childhood and Adolescence”. The following will be present: ISD preceptors Celina Reis, neuropsychologist and PhD student in Psychology at UFRN; Cecília de Britto, psychologist; Renata Rocha, social worker, and a fourth guest, psychologist Clécio da Silva.

According to neuropediatrician preceptor Celina Reis, the goal of the activity is to promote a moment of free conversation, where the public and participants can openly discuss the main challenges in forming a family network during the ASD diagnostic process. “The main goal is to talk about the diagnosis within the family: the impact that the diagnosis has on the family, the guidance that this family receives at this time, how the multidisciplinary team behaves and what support we can give this family”, explains Celina Reis.

THE LAPEN

LAPEN is coordinated by Professor Izabel Hazin and vice-coordinated by Professors Laura Aragão, from the Psychology Department at UFRN, and Cíntia Alves Salgado Azoni, from the Speech Therapy Department at the same institution.
