Children's health is the theme of a Permanent Health Education activity promoted by ISD

Posted in August 7, 2023

Professionals from the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) and the Family Health Strategy (ESF) teams in Macaíba discussed, this Thursday, August 3, ways to improve the quality of care provided to children in Primary Health Care services At the meeting, forms of organization that can make care more effective were presented, as well as behavioral and development assessment scales.

The meeting is part of the calendar of Permanent Health Education activities promoted by ISD with the ESF teams. In the 2023 cycle, activities on women's health have already taken place, and new meetings focusing on health care for people with disabilities should take place by the end of the year.

The meeting agendas are defined based on real demands and weaknesses pointed out by the professionals themselves, which involve ISD's areas of activity, so that the institution can contribute to strengthening the health care network.

In the activity promoted on Thursday, the objective was to broaden the perspective of Primary Health Care professionals towards signs that can improve the care provided to children, involving not only them, but their families, essential in child development. “These scales evaluate children according to age group. By asking simple questions, we are able to strengthen child care at the end, dealing with details that will allow us to identify issues that require greater attention or referrals early”, explains ISD pediatric preceptor, Sabrinna Machado.

Nurse Renata Raianny, who is part of one of the teams that participated in the continuing education activity, highlights that the activity mainly contributes to the development of a more attentive and differentiated perspective for children. “It contributes a lot to a different perspective for both children and mothers. We start to take some measurements more precisely, for example, and this way we are able to provide better guidance to this family on child care”, he highlights.

Resident doctor in Family and Community Medicine at the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL/UFRN), Taís de Moura Silva highlights the importance of applying the scales to better understand child development. “These scales are very important for us, who work in Primary Care. We who are general practitioners do not have as good an idea of development as pediatricians. Having knowledge and access to these tools that are presented at ISD, which I, for example, did not see throughout my six years at college, is essential for medical education”, says the professional.
