O Alberto Santos Dumont Teaching and Research Institute, known as The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) is a social organization linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC). It operates from two units: the Anita Garibaldi Center for Education and Research in Health (Anita) and the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS). The two ISD units are located in the municipality of Macaíba, in Rio Grande do Norte.
Conceived by the neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis, the ISD was inspired by the innovative figure of Alberto Santos Dumont, father of aviation. ISD flights are guided by responsibility and social impact. The institution operates in the areas of maternal and child health, health of people with disabilities, neurosciences and neuroengineering.
Social Organization
Qualified as a Social Organization by the Federal Government through the Presidential Decree of February 27, 2014, the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) maintains management contract as Ministry of Education (MEC), to carry out activities of public interest.
Units
Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS)
Teaching and research center in the areas of neurosciences and neuroengineering. Since 2013, it offers the first Master's Degree in Neuroengineering in Brazil, authorized by CAPES. With a focus on translational research, the IIN-ELS develops studies mainly in the areas of Neuromodulation and Brain-Machine Interface. Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center (Anita)
Part of the Unified Health System (SUS), Anita works as a great school for the health professions, developing actions ranging from graduation to permanent education.
