Luana Metta, a multidisciplinary neuropsychologist preceptor at the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), participated in the Preceptorship Week program at the Ana Bezerra University Hospital (HUAB) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), in Santa Cruz/RN. During the event, she gave a lecture on strategies for welcoming and developing competencies for neurodiversity.

The activity was aimed at preceptors, residents, and the administrative team of HUAB. Neuropsychologist Luana Metta, who works at ISD in maternal and child health care, especially in the area of neurodevelopment, discussed the relationships between preceptors and residents and how to design health services for neurodivergent users.

“Having this discussion is extremely important. After all, inclusion needs to be part of the training of healthcare professionals. By preparing preceptors to recognize different ways of functioning, we can improve both the training process for residents and the care offered to neurodivergent users,” says Luana Metta.

Nurse Anny Mayara Oliveira, responsible for managing outpatient care at HUAB, participated in the event and reinforced the importance of dialogue with the ISD's operational model and with an external professional perspective to enrich the team's practice and knowledge.

“The lecture was very meaningful to me, mainly because it brought such a necessary perspective on neurodiversity in education and healthcare. The information presented made me reflect a lot on my professional practice and on how we can better organize the service to welcome and attend to each person according to their needs,” the professional emphasizes.

One of ISD's main strategies is to strengthen relationships with other educational and healthcare institutions, actively seeking the exchange of knowledge and experiences between services through the promotion and participation in training and educational activities.
