The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) promotes, next Monday (28), the International Meeting – Practices and New Technologies in Molds for Individual Sound Amplification Devices (AASI). The event will be held from 9 am to 11 am, in the auditorium of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neurosciences (IIN-ELS), in Macaíba (RN), with free participation.
Aimed at undergraduate and graduate students, speech-language pathologists, and people interested in hearing health, the meeting aims to promote the exchange of knowledge about practices, techniques, and new technologies related to the making of molds used in hearing aids.
The program will feature speakers from Brazil, the United States, Australia, and Peru, providing participants with exposure to different international experiences and approaches in the field.
Among the guests is Deborah Viviane Ferrari, from the Faculty of Dentistry of Bauru, University of São Paulo (FOB/USP), who will address the fundamentals of ear molds and participate in the summary of the meeting and the question and answer session.
From Northern Illinois University in the United States, King Chung will present aspects related to the making of instant ear molds, sharing knowledge and practices developed in an international context.
Representing Australia, David Pither, Past President of EARS, will speak about the making of conventional ear molds, drawing on his experience in the field.
The meeting will also feature Jordan Varillas, project coordinator at Oir Para Crecer, from Peru, who will present possibilities related to the production of 3D-printed ear molds, bringing the discussion about hearing health closer to new manufacturing technologies.
The moderation will be conducted by Edgard Morya, researcher and manager of IIN-ELS, and Sheila Balen, from the Hearing and Language Laboratory (LAIS/UFRN).
Exchange of experiences and new technologies
Beyond the technical and scientific content, the meeting represents an opportunity for students, researchers, and professionals to connect, broadening their contact with different perspectives on working in the field of hearing health.
The program covers everything from fundamentals and conventional techniques to more recent alternatives, such as instant molds and 3D printing, highlighting different possibilities for applying technology in the production of devices aimed at sound amplification.
Initiatives like this help to bridge the gap between academic training, scientific research, technological innovation, and professional practices, strengthening the exchange of knowledge and experiences in healthcare.
