The Santos Dumont Institute (ISD), a social organization located in Macaíba, has opened the institution's Technological Innovation Center (NIT). The new center will work with processes involving creations developed in the Institute's laboratories, aiming to manage the internal innovation policy and, among other responsibilities, improve licensing, intellectual protection and technology transfer.
The NIT was founded at a meeting attended by Reginaldo Freitas Jr., ISD's CEO, Jovan Gadioli, the institution's administrative director, and Edgard Morya, manager of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS). Also present at the meeting were the members chosen to form the NIT by the Technological Innovation Committee (CIT), representing the two ISD units: IIN-ELS and the Anita Garibaldi Center for Education in Research and Health (Anita); the administrative-financial area and the Institute's general management.
The development of technologies in ISD laboratories has grown, with innovations such as software that aims to improve the movement of para-athletes in shot put and a device that seeks to optimize the early identification of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, both developed in partnership with researchers from UFRN.
Chosen as coordinator of the Commission, research professor Gabriel Vasiljevic considers the formalization of internal processes linked to innovation to be positive. “A technological innovation policy is essential to transform the knowledge generated within the ISD into concrete benefits for society, in addition to helping to protect intellectual property and stimulate partnerships and the transfer of knowledge between institutions,” says the professor.
The representative of the ISD general directorate on the Commission, Marcelo Carvalho, reinforces that the NIT is also designed to strengthen and facilitate institutional partnerships, especially when combined with the ISD's open laboratory policy, which allows researchers from all over the world to develop part of their research using the Institute's infrastructure.
“The creation of our NIT will allow the ISD to manage its innovation policy, encouraging the protection of its creations. Our open laboratories are spaces for innovation and technological development, and the Center will also allow us to develop strategies for transferring technology from the Institute,” explains Marcelo.
