Professionals and residents from the Santos Dumont Institute (ISD) participated in the 10th Academic Speech Therapy Conference (JAFON), promoted by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). The event brought together students and professionals in the field to discuss different possibilities for speech therapy practice and to share experiences in care and research.
ISD's participation in the Conference highlighted experiences developed in different lines of care and reinforced the integration between teaching and service in the training of professionals to work in the Unified Health System (SUS).
On that occasion, the speech-language pathologist preceptors Nyara Aguiar, Ana Carolina Dantas, and Gizele Nascimento, along with resident Laís Alves, participated in the event, presenting work developed from experiences gained in the Institute's services and projects.
As part of the event's program, speech-language pathologist preceptor Gizele Nascimento participated in the roundtable discussion "Challenges for Networked Work in the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System)." She shared her experience with preceptorship in residency programs as a tool for integrating teaching, service, and healthcare, as well as a space for training professionals for the SUS.
“Preceptorship is a space for integration between teaching, service, and care. The resident's training takes place in the daily work routine, through experience, supervision, and the building of autonomy. It is within this process that the resident learns, assumes responsibilities, and prepares for collaborative work in the Unified Health System,” explains the preceptor.
The discussion also addressed the importance of coordination between different points in the healthcare network. Integration between services and professionals is essential to ensure continuity of care and enable speech-language pathology to contribute at different levels of care within the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS).
