From May 15th to 18th Science Education Center (CEC), Serrinha unit (BA), held discussion groups with the eight classes of the Science and Robotics workshop. This activity sought to discuss issues involving family farming in the region so that, based on the points discussed, students could raise robotics resources to improve local practices on farms.

The students participated in the activity in the external area of the CEC, where the vegetable gardens organized by the Science and Environment workshop are located, and took advantage of the observation of the space to identify plants that occur or not in the region where they live, better understanding the diversity and practices of family farming.

Miguel Filho, a general services assistant at CEC Serrinha, who lives in a rural community and is also a family farmer, was invited to share experiences with the students. He shared his experiences as a farmer and spoke about the challenges of the countryside. After the conversation, the students asked questions and clarified doubts about the topic.

After the discussions raised in the conversation circles, the idea is for students to structure irrigation projects in the CEC vegetable gardens using robotic components that can be used on the properties to improve planting and keep the land productive all year round, including during dry periods.

According to the coordinator of CEC Serrinha, Joseane Souza, these collective conversations are fundamental: “Activities like this take students out of their comfort zone and teach them to value people, listen attentively and participate in dialogues where everyone can be seen and heard in an organized way. This exchange of experiences helps everyone to get to know the region where they live better”, she concludes.
