IIN-ELS Master's student selected in science diplomacy course

The student of the Master in Neuroengineering at the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS), Valton Costa, is one of the 40 Brazilians selected to participate in the São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Science Diplomacy and Innovation Diplomacy, promoted by University of São Paulo (USP), with support from São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). The event, which also selected 40 participants from other countries, will take place in the capital of São Paulo from August 21 to 30 and will address discussions related to science, innovation and international relations.

The purpose of São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Science Diplomacy and Innovation Diplomacy The aim of the event is to contribute to the debate on Scientific Diplomacy and its history, in addition to promoting a learning environment conducive to dialogue between scientists and diplomats. “The course will cover a wide range of areas such as science and technology in the context of innovation, international cooperation, socioeconomic development and globalization. The aim of the event is to stimulate scientists’ interest and training in international cooperation, based on technical partnerships, technology and specific knowledge transfers, development of aid programs between countries and other initiatives in which researchers can play an active role,” explains Valton, who studied International Relations for a semester before enrolling in the physiotherapy course, the area in which he graduated.

In addition to lectures and thematic meetings, participants from the São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Scientific Diplomacy and Innovation Diplomacy will visit two Brazilian laboratories: Sirius, the country's new synchrotron light source, and the Embraer Development Center.
