Anita Garibaldi Health Education and Research Center project chosen by FAIMER (Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research)

The project Maternal Health in Quilombola Communities. Strategy for the Development of Multicultural Competence in Health Training, implemented by the Anita Garibaldi Center for Health Education and Research, in partnership with UFRN, was one of the projects chosen for an international training program, FAIMER Brazil Regional Institute, in the 2015 class. The proposal is to monitor maternal health in the quilombola community of Capoeiras, in the municipality of Macaíba, reinforcing our mission of social transformation and inclusion through science, studying the needs related to maternal health specific to this population group, improving the training of teachers and students.

FAIMER (Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research), an American foundation for the advancement of international medical education and research, has a regional institute in Ceará, supported and financed by the Secretariat for Management of Work and Education in Health (SGTES) of the Ministry of Health. The FAIMER Regional Institute Brazil is a specialization program run by the Federal University of Ceará that offers 40 positions per year for undergraduate teachers in the area of Health, who are able to improve the teaching of these professions in their institutions.

The Director of Teaching and Research at the Santos Dumont Institute, Dr. Reginaldo Freitas Jr., participates in the first in-person phase of the Teacher Development Program for Educators of Health Professions: FAIMER Brazil Regional Institute, from March 7 to 19, in Fortaleza.
