Postgraduate in Neuroengineering

The Graduate Program in Neuroengineering at Instituto Santos Dumont (ISD) operates from the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neurosciences (IIN-ELS), one of our units in Macaíba (RN).

The first program recognized by the Ministry of Education in this area of knowledge in Brazil, the Master's Degree in Neuroengineering at ISD seeks to train professionals with a broader perspective, who move through the academic and business circles (public or private), linking neurosciences with engineering. This future researcher must be competent at the scientific, political, ethical and social levels, in addition to developing the ability to work in inter and multidisciplinary teams.

The central theme of the course is neuroengineering, an interdisciplinary research area that integrates neuroscience and engineering methods to study the functioning of the nervous system and develop solutions for the limitations and dysfunctions associated with this system. The structure of the Program was designed to overcome existing barriers between exact, biological and human graduations. There is an evident need for real multidisciplinary training in Brazil, especially in the Northeast region.

The IIN-ELS master's degree is free, 100% in-personhas the duration of 24 months and has the Biomedical engineering as an area of concentration. The selection processes occur twice a year.

A professional who develops simulations of neural networks on machines with four thousand processing cores, which produces arrays of 128 electrodes with thicknesses smaller than a strand of hair. An academic who builds three-dimensional images of nervous system cells or works with brain-machine interfaces for rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injuries. This is the day to day of the students of the Graduate Program (PPG) of the Edmond and Lily Safra International Institute of Neuroscience (IIN-ELS).

The IIN-ELS offers, since 2013, the first Master's in Neuroengineering from Brazil. Recommended by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES, 33280010001P2), the course aims to:

I – Develop advanced scientific research in neuroengineering;

II – Train qualified professionals to work multi and interdisciplinary in Neuroengineering, in the field of scientific research and public or private technological bodies;

III – Encourage, disseminate and apply new knowledge in a regional, national and international context;

IV – Foster science as an agent of cultural stimulation and integration with regional communities.
